The Mini-MOM Veterans Dental Day is a community oral health event for our Southwest Virginia community! We look forward to serving many of our neighbors who have served in the Armed Forces. These patients will register, see dental professionals, receive treatment, all at no cost!

This event is organized by Bland Ministry Center with support from Virginia Dental Association Foundation and community partners
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Mini MOM?
In response to the overwhelming lack of access for oral health care, Mission of Mercy projects are pop-up events organized to provide high-quality care to underserved Virginians. This event will be limited to extraction services only.

What should patients expect at the event?
Prior to the event, patients should schedule a pre-screening appointment. They should arrive to this pre-screening event with proof of service and a complete list of medications. At that time, they will receive dental imaging and triage to determine a plan of treatment. They will be assigned to a specific time-slot for the November 14th event.
On November 14, they will see a licensed dentist or dental hygienist for treatment. Patients will receive aftercare instructions and medications (if needed) before heading home.

Where will the event take place?
The event will be held at Big Walker Dentistry at 435 W. North Street in Wytheville, VA.

What is the schedule?
During the month of October, staff will perform pre-screening appointments. A screening is not a guarantee of treatment.
On Friday, November 14 staff and volunteers will perform treatment.

What services will you provide?
We will provide health screenings, dental cleanings, fillings, and extractions to U.S. Veteran patients (18 and over).

What if I have more than one dental need?
Providers will complete treatment based on each patient's needs. This will be at the discretion of the dentist.

What will you do for pain management?
Local anesthetic (numbing) will be done prior to extractions. No sedation will be available. Patients may leave with non-opioid pain management (ibuprofen and/or acetaminophen).

Should I make an appointment?
This is a first-come, first-served event. We will provide as many free visits as possible, but space will be limited. Please schedule your pre-screening appointment as early as possible.
If you have questions, please call the office at 276-228-4711.

Who can participate?
The Mini-MOM project is free for residents of Southwest Virginia who have served in our Armed Forces.

What should I bring?
Please bring a list of your current medications to aide in the registration process, a book or fully-charged phone and headphones while you wait, and a snack in case you need it!
